PFAN’s Interactive Annual Progress Report

The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 had severe consequences on economies and societies around the globe.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, PFAN extended tailored coaching support to a further 157 projects in 2020, successfully increasing the number of supported climate and clean energy projects by 30% compared to 2019. We also strengthened our network by adding 23 PFAN Advisors in 2020, bringing the total number up to 141 clean energy financing experts in 52 countries around the world.

This year, PFAN has taken an interactive approach to its annual report, building a fully interactive user experience. For the first time this year we took a regional approach, to give readers an overview on how PFAN engaged in their country or area of interest. We focused on the transformational impact of PFAN, sharing the experience of Fourth Partner Energy in India, and furthered developed our Theory of Change.

This year’s technology focus topic is cooling, which in recent years has emerged as an important piece of the puzzle in climate change response. We followed up with one of our supported projects in this sector to produce a success story video with PAC Corporation Thailand, a female-led energy saving cooling and heating products company who have benefitted from PFAN’s advisory services.

To continue our gender mainstreaming efforts in the Covid-19 world, PFAN turned its focus toward virtually-held regional gender awareness trainings and our female advisors in Asia had a particularly successful year. In the summer PFAN responded to the pandemic by initiating a specific Covid-19 response in partnership with GET.Invest to offer its expertise in helping climate entrepreneurs towards ensuring business continuity during these turbulent times.

PFAN is generously funded by our donors, and in this report we interviewed Maximilian Jönsson, Senior Advisor and Programme Manager, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) for his insights on PFAN.
